We believe in data minimization and transparency. We only collect what's absolutely necessary to operate Chunklink. We don't sell your data to third parties, and we don't engage in invasive tracking. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.

2. What Data We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Microsoft Account Data: Your name and email address from Microsoft OAuth (because that's how you log in)
  • Minecraft UUID: Your Minecraft player ID when you first join your server (needed for server permissions)

Server Usage Data

To run your Minecraft server, we collect:

  • Server Configuration: Your server name, settings, and any customizations you make
  • Player Session Data: Who joined your server and when (shown in your analytics dashboard)
  • Server Files: Your world data, player data, plugins, etc. (stored in our infrastructure)

Payment Information

When you subscribe, we collect billing information through Stripe. We never see or store your credit card details — Stripe handles all of that securely.

Technical Data

Like pretty much every website, we collect:

  • IP Addresses: For security, fraud prevention, and debugging
  • Browser & Device Info: To make sure the website works properly on your device
  • Usage Statistics: How you use the service (anonymized where possible)

3. Why We Collect This Data

Here's the complete breakdown:

  • To run your server: Can't host your Minecraft world without storing it somewhere
  • To authenticate you: Need to know who you are when you log in
  • To bill you: Subscriptions require payment processing
  • To provide analytics: Show you stats about who's playing on your server
  • To improve the service: Understanding how people use Chunklink helps me make it better
  • To prevent abuse: Keep out the bad actors and protect everyone
  • To comply with law: Sometimes I'm legally required to keep certain records (like for taxes)

4. Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell your data to third parties. However, we work with essential service providers to operate Chunklink:

Essential Service Providers

  • Hetzner Cloud: Our server infrastructure is hosted on Hetzner Cloud. All data is encrypted, where applicable.
  • Stripe: Payment processing (they handle your billing info securely)
  • Cloudflare: CDN and DDoS protection for the website
  • Microsoft: OAuth authentication (you're logging in with your Microsoft account)

Legal Obligations

We may be required to share your data if mandated by law (such as a court order) or to protect against fraud and abuse. We will resist unreasonable requests and notify you when legally permitted to do so.

5. How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Active accounts: As long as you're using Chunklink
  • After cancellation: 2 years (in case you change your mind)
  • Backups: May persist in backups for up to 90 days after deletion
  • Tax/billing records: Kept for 10 years (German tax law requirement)
  • Abuse/security logs: Up to 12 months for security purposes

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access: Get a copy of all data we have about you
  • Rectification: Fix incorrect data
  • Erasure: Delete your data (the "right to be forgotten")
  • Portability: Download your data in a usable format
  • Restriction: Limit how we process your data
  • Object: Object to certain types of processing
  • Complain: File a complaint with your data protection authority

7. Cookies & Tracking

We use minimal cookies:

  • Essential Cookies: Session management, authentication (required for the service to work)
  • Preferences: Remember your language choice, dark mode settings

No advertising cookies. No tracking across websites. Just the basics to make Chunklink work.

8. Security

We take security seriously. Your data is:

  • Encrypted in transit (HTTPS everywhere)
  • Encrypted at rest where applicable
  • Protected by industry-standard security measures
  • Regularly backed up
  • Monitored for unusual activity

That said, no system is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach, we will notify you promptly as required by law.

9. Children's Privacy

Chunklink is not intended for children under 16. If you are under 16, please have a parent or guardian create and manage your account. If we learn we have collected data from someone under 16 without parental consent, we will delete it promptly.

10. International Data Transfers

Your data is primarily stored in Germany (EU). Some service providers (like Stripe) may process data outside the EU. When that happens, it's protected by standard contractual clauses approved by the EU Commission.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. When we do, we will update the version and date at the top. For major changes, we will email you. Please check back periodically to stay informed.
